Records of the Three Kingdoms

Han Dang, courtesy name Yigong, was from Lingzhi in Liaoxi. Sun Jian took him on for his archery, horsemanship, and strength. He campaigned against the Yellow Turbans and Dong Zhuo, then served both Sun Ce and Sun Quan. He led detachments of his own and fought at Red Cliffs and in later wars with Wei.

By the Huangwu reign he was an old officer. He died of illness in 227. The biography is short. Its point is that he followed the Sun family through three generations without changing sides.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms

In the novel Han Dang usually stands with Huang Gai and Cheng Pu, one of the older Jiangdong officers. He rides out to duel, but he rarely owns a chapter.

He is still on the Wu list at Yiling. Readers mostly remember him as part of the band Sun Jian left behind, not as the winner of one famous fight.
