Records of the Three Kingdoms
Sun Ce, courtesy name Bofu, was from Fuchun in Wu commandery, Sun Jian’s eldest son. After his father died in Jing he attached himself to Yuan Shu, later recovered his father’s old troops, crossed the river with Zhou Yu, and in a few years took Jiangdong. Kuaiji, Wu, Danyang, and Yuzhang were no longer places one could borrow at will.
In 200 he was stabbed by enemies while hunting and died of the wound, at twenty-six. Dying, he gave the seal to his brother Sun Quan and said that for raising the people of Jiangdong and deciding matters between two lines, he himself was not Sun Quan’s equal. Chen Shou says his ferocity crowned the age.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
The novel calls him the Little Conqueror. The spear fight with Taishi Ci at Shenting is his martial scene. The curse of Yu Ji is the novel: a resentful adept makes the wound burst.
In the histories the death is an assassination and a wound, not a spell. He leaves Jiangdong to Sun Quan. The book keeps that dying sentence.
