Maicheng is a small fortress in Nan commandery, near Dangyang. Guan Yu came back from Fan to save Jiangling, found the road cut by Lü Meng, and made for Maicheng. On the breakout Wu’s troops captured him, and he was killed.
The novel adds terms of surrender, Wang Fu’s death, and a later apparition. The Records are short: he went to Maicheng, was taken, and died. The place matters because the Jing war ends here, not because the city was large.
