After the turns with Liu Bei, Cao Cao trapped Lü Bu in Xiapi and flooded it with the Yi and Si. Hou Cheng, Song Xian, and Wei Xu bound Chen Gong and opened the city. Lü Bu asked to serve. While Cao Cao hesitated, Liu Bei recalled Ding Yuan and Dong Zhuo. Cao Cao had him strangled.
That ends Lü Bu as a political man. The novel’s White Gate Tower adds speeches, and Diaochan’s presence or absence changes by edition. The flood, the betrayal, and the strangling are enough for the history.
